Triple 8
Triple 8 were exactly what the name Triple 8 suggests: a shit boy band. They were active around 2003-2004 ish, I think. Around the time that Phyxx/Phixx(?) were enjoying 'success'. The only song of theirs I remember was called 'Knockout. It had one of those 'cheeky lads with eyes for the laydeez are summoned to a wet, sweaty basement/dungeon and tortured by leather-bikini clad slappers, some of which danced in big cages massaging the unexplainable rain into their glistening breasts, yet despite all this still seems just a little bit gay' kind of videos. I don't know if any of this actually happened (Infact, I'm fairly sure none of it did. It's just the image in my head for some reason. I think I'm confusing them with Phyxx...). 'Knockout' also had a bit of a 'Everybody Get Up' by Five kind of vibe to it. Judge for yourself by viewing this handily-placed video clip:
Oh, hang on. My image of the video was pretty much completely right. I promise I didn't look. I make a point of trying to remember as much as possibel without looking anything up...
I mean it!
What possible benefit could there be from me making that up?
Anyway, see the Five link? I certainly do. 'Knockout' is actually a pretty solid song, as far as this kind of band go. I can't remember any more Triple 8 videos. I found this on Youtube:
Points to consider:
1) This is a really really shitty song. I can understand how I can't recall such a forgettable song.
2) They can't sing. At all. Like, not even a little bit.
3) They look like every 4-5 piece boy band who auditions on X Factor.
4) But it got to number 9 apparently, which isn't bad going really. Isn't the pattern usually '1st single goes Top 5, follow up makes #27'?
Were Triple 8 a good boy band with no luck, or a shit boy band who disappeared after 2 singles for a very good reason (ie: are shit)? I suspect the latter. Still, at least one of the singles was OK.
